Photographing a different kind of model. This one is only 7 inches long. Gus left a greenscreen in my studio, and I’ve survived hours and hours of Fashion Week photo editing by watching old Star Trek episodes on DVD for the last three weeks. Couldn’t resist. I guess it’s just futile. Wait, no, wrong series.

I shot a model test with Roza from MC2 earlier this week, and took the opportunity to play around with my DSLR’s video function. The Pentax K7 is a little weird to shoot video with. Even with a 1000w softlight as the key, I got a lot of digital noise in the shadows. It is less noticable at web resolution, but out of the camera at full resolution there is way too much grain to consider using this for broadcast applications. I also had no control over the f-stop, the same problem that was experienced on the earlier Canon DSLR video rigs. The HD video feature on the Pentax K7 seems more like a gimmick than a professional tool. I like Pentax cameras a lot, I love their lenses and the compact lightweight weather-sealed bodies, and I certainly get professional-grade images out of the still camera side of this device, but I was more or less disappointed with this experiment. charlesbeckwith.com/ mc2mm.com/
